Small comforts

If you go to lots of Zumba classes, you’ve probably experienced a class under somewhat uncomfortable circumstances:
you forgot your water bottle and got thirsty, your shoes weren’t quite right, you were hungry, or your clothes were a little too warm or too cold.

And it was fine, because you were only there for an hour.

When you’re trying to last for several hours, especially 26, you need to approach things differently. Allow yourself whatever you need to make your time as comfortable as possible.

You’re allowed to eat, even things you would normally consider too unhealthy. If you find yourself craving them after 12 hours, go for it!

Find the most comfortable shoes, socks and clothes you possibly can.

Bring a dry shirt or dry socks to change into, and your favourite fluffy towel.

Bring a warm layer or a cozy blanket for breaks in case you find you get cold.

Whenever you encounter something that starts to annoy you after eight hours of training, give yourself permission to fix it, even if you wouldn’t normally consider it a big deal.

A few examples:

  • If your glasses keep sliding, try out straps to hold them in place.
  • If your bra is chafing, look into a seamless sports bra.
  • If you feel grimy and it makes you uncomfortable, bring a wet towel.

24 hours of dancing don’t just require a strong body; they also require self-motivation. Whatever you can do to keep your mind and body happy and your spirits high is absolutely worth it!
